#DTRoadTrip: Howdy from Houston!

They say everything is bigger in Texas. After our drive from Dallas to Houston, we’d have to agree. Texas is the only state on our #DTRoadTrip where we visited two cities because it’s hard to escape all of this space!

We’re glad we had the chance to see more of the Lone Star state. Houston was particularly amazing. The city, its people and attractions are so diverse, we sure thought it lived up to its many nicknames:

Space City
Magnolia City
Hustle Town
H-Town
The Big Heart
Golden Buckle of the Sun Belt

Houston goes by many other names, we probably didn’t even hear half of them. But during our visit, we did discover why just one name is not enough to describe Houston.

We first learned the meaning of “Hustle Town” and “The Big Heart” at the Southwest Freeway DriveTime dealership.

#DTRoadTrip: The Spirit of Dallas

Texas is massive! As we made our way across the Texas plains under that enormous, blue sky, we felt like pioneers heading to the frontier. This was the true West! Home to rugged cowboys, ranching horses and long-horn cattle. But when that magnificent Dallas skyline came into view, it was clear that things have changed.

Dallas is a mega-city in the heart of Texas. It’s packed with high rises and all the modern conveniences that we enjoy, and as we neared the city, we couldn’t help but wonder if there was any of that frontier spirit left in 21st century Dallas.

Things may be different now, but we still had frontier spirit, and we were ready for an adventure. Our first stop for #DTRoadTrip Dallas was DriveTime’s Redbird dealership.

#DTRoadTrip: Kicking It in Kansas City (Not Kansas)

Why is it called Kansas City when it’s not even in Kansas? This questioned dominated our conversation as we made our way from Detroit to Kansas City, Missouri.

We researched this question, and we learned that there are actually two Kansas Cities; one in Kansas and one in Missouri. Did you know that Kansas City, Missouri was actually formed before Kansas became a state? The name “Kansas” came from the native Kanza tribe, and it was first given to the city in Missouri. As the city grew in popularity, the state of Kansas formed their own Kansas City in an attempt to merge their popularity with Missouri, and possibly annex their state border to include both cities. This move just made Kansas look silly and desperate, and no one took Kansas City, Kansas, seriously ever again.

We’ve learned a lot of things on our #DTRoadTrip, but the history of Kansas City has to be in our top five favorite lessons. Join us now as we explore the better of the two Kansas Cities, and catch up with DriveTime Kansas City’s Inspection Center team.

#DTRoadTrip: Taking a Closer Look at Eastpointe

It’s our fifth week on the road. We’re nearly half-way through our #DTRoadTrip! Time has flown by as we’ve sped from one incredible place to the next.

As the Nashville skyline disappeared in the distance, we soon found ourselves surrounded by the lush, green landscape of the Midwest’s Great Lakes region.

The air was thick as we took in Detroit, it felt like standing by the ocean. This impressed us, because we never imagined Detroit being so green and alive. Our vision for Detroit stemmed mostly from how the city is portrayed in movies and the news. We honestly expected to see rows of smoke stacks, gigantic factories and a smog filled sky. What we got was a bright blue sky with a gigantic lake to match, and an impressive city skyline surrounded by darling neighborhoods.
