There’s Benefits to Working in Benefits – DriveTime 2013 Internship Series

Corporate culture at DriveTime is like the makeup of a car; the success of a smooth ride is dependent on every individual part working together. In my three short weeks at DriveTime, I have discovered first-hand the unique corporate culture that defines our team.
As a senior at Arizona State University, I was seeking an internship that would expose me to the corporate world and prepare me for my career post-graduation. Coming into this internship, I fully anticipated getting coffee and make copies all day. Instead, I have been given the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience in the Benefits Department. I work closely with my managers, shadowing them in their daily tasks and gaining insight into the many components that form the Benefits Program here at DriveTime.
Additionally, I have designed numerous benefits and wellness-related newsletters that are distributed company-wide. This is the work that I have most enjoyed because I get to research, write and create layouts in Adobe InDesign. I then receive feedback on my work from my supervisor, which is what will help me to grow the most in my career. As part of the internship program, I have also been given the opportunity to participate in weekly workshops that teach real-world, corporate issues such as ethics and self-awareness.
Interning at DriveTime is a truly unique experience because you are not treated as merely an intern, but recognized as a member of the DriveTime team. Never in my six years of work experience have I encountered a group of individuals that are so intelligent, kind and eager to pass on their knowledge. Additionally, the work I am doing for my internship at DriveTime will be beneficial for my future career because the knowledge I receive can never be encountered in a classroom lecture. Given my positive experience thus far, I am confident that the remainder of my summer internship will be a success.
