Fun Family Activities for the 4th of July
It’s that time of the year again, so celebrate.
It’s hard to believe it is that time of the year again, but here we are America! Time to get grills fired up, fireworks prepared (safely), coolers stocked and festive attire ready. It’s time to celebrate the ultimate reason for celebrating – freedom.
But freedom doesn’t mean you have to go crazy with tailgates and bottle rockets, which can be dangerous. What is important to remember this coming weekend is that safety comes first.
Fireworks
There is nothing wrong with fireworks. They are beautiful and sum up the celebration better than just about anything else. However, they are explosions, even if controlled ones. There is an extreme need for caution. Depending on where you live, the firework laws will be different, as some states are more lenient than others. But just because your state allows you to go all out doesn’t mean you have to.
When it comes to fireworks, the safest thing to do is go see them in your city or community. Firework displays are extravagant and worth putting up with the crowd. Not only will these fireworks be more impressive than any you would light off in your yard, but they will also ensure all safety measures are considered.
Additionally, community fireworks are exactly for that, the community! The 4th of July is about being one nation – doing so together is much more fun than doing it by yourself.
Parade
Most towns and cities will have a parade. Depending on your community you might even have one in your neighborhood. For those families with children who are afraid of fireworks, or maybe they don’t like the loud booms, a parade is a fun and relaxed way to celebrate the holiday.
Not only is candy usually tossed around, but parades demonstrate to children the importance of the day as well. Parades always stand for something, and children recognize this. When they see the red, white and blue, hear the music and the old-fashioned cars honking their horns, they will be part of the procession.
Going to see fireworks is more impressive and safer than lighting your own.
No matter what you plan to do, relaxing is important. It is easy to get carried away in all the festivities, but sometimes just having a picnic or cooking food in the back yard for some friends or relatives is a great idea.
We all need a little down time, and guess what, you are free to do that as well. Don’t put more pressure on yourself than you need to this holiday weekend. If relaxing is your thing, then have at it. However, you should still find a way to incorporate some of the celebration as well. Whether you are going to bake a cake with festive colors or simply put red, white and blue balloons around the yard, adding some decorative charm to the home will go a long way and help you remember the importance of the day.
July 4th reminds us of how lucky we are. This country provides its citizens with something many people in the world can only dream of. Some people might even be too afraid to speak about it, but not us, not in America. We have rights and we have freedom, so take ahold of it and smile. Celebrate this holiday in whatever way is most appropriate to you, but do it safely.
