Long Term Rentals Eclipsed by Cancel Anytime Lease Program

For people who need a vehicle for a long period of time, long term rentals have always been an option, but not a very appealing one.

Whether you are a business traveler on an extended trip, a college student, a seasonal traveler, or just on a long vacation, a long term rental has definite advantages over buying a car you will only be driving for a few months. You won’t have to worry about title, maintenance, or getting around on public transportation while you are on your trip, and you get to give the car back at the end of the term without the hassle of reselling it.

On the other hand, long term rentals have some pretty serious drawbacks. They are expensive, for starters, and often require you to purchase additional expensive add-ons, services, and insurance. You may have thought this was the only option for the long term traveler, and for a long time, it has been. But not anymore.

With the new Cancel Anytime Lease, DriveTime has found a way to provide a perfect alternative to the expenses of a long term rental for the types of people I mentioned above, and also for many others seeking the flexibility and affordability of a lease program with no lease terms. That’s right, you can bring your car to select DriveTime dealers anytime and cancel, modify, or upgrade your lease without negatively affecting your credit score or incurring financial penalties.

This arrangement is absolutely perfect for the long term traveler, isn’t it? Now you can sign up for a lease, drive the car you want at a lower monthly payment, and return it whenever your business trip or vacation is over – and that’s that! No muss, no fuss. The Cancel Anytime Lease is just that simple, and the perfect alternative to costly long term rentals.

In addition to this unprecedented flexibility in your lease terms, you get a host of other great features and services. These include:

  • Less due at signing. The lease is structured so that you pay less money down and have lower monthly payments than a traditional lease, and certainly much lower than a rental. Insurance rates are far lower than with a rental – and don’t forget, you can cancel anytime.
  • Life of lease limited warranty. This warranty protects just about all the major systems, including critical engine components and more, for the life of the lease.
  • More savings and rewards. While you drive, you are earning credits toward a future lease or purchase, building a long term relationship of savings.

To reiterate, the Cancel Anytime Lease program allows you unprecedented flexibility and enables you to drive the car you want at a rate you can more easily afford. When you are finished, you bring the car in and cancel the lease, on your terms, without negatively affecting your credit score or incurring financial penalties. (We just have to keep saying it, because it sounds so good, doesn’t it?)

Whether you are someone looking for an alternative to long term rental, or simply looking for the best possible lease out there, you need to check out the Cancel Anytime Lease.

At then end of your lease year can’t you finish paying the car off to own it?

    • DriveTime   •

You sure can, Kristie. You can purchase the vehicle outright during the lease or at the end of your term, which is 30 months. You earn Lease Rewards throughout your lease, which can be used towards the balance of the vehicle if you want to purchase it. You can visit or give us a call anytime for more info on our lease option.

How is the down payment determined for the lease?

    • DriveTime   •

Antonio, the down payment is determined by which class the vehicle is grouped in. There are three classes of lease vehicles and the availability differs by dealership. Starting April 1, leases will be available for as low as $795 down and increases from there. I’d recommend stopping into your local dealership and checking out their inventory, that way you can get an exact down payment and monthly payment.

How dose the mileage work……. like how many mile a year.

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Herb, all lease vehicles can be driven up to 18,000 miles per year! At your 18,0001 mile, a small fee will be assessed for every mile that you go over. Considering most traditional leases only allow you to drive 10,000 or 12,000 miles per year, we don’t think you’ll have any problem staying under 18,000!

what are the 3 types of car classes from lowest to highest? I go to school during the day and work at night and need a car, there are no public transportation at 3:30 A.M when i get off work.

I have a leased car through drivetime already, but nothing seems to really answer my question.. I want to turn my car back in but it’s not time for my lease to be up. Basically I want to end the lease early. So will I have any penalties for doing so ?

    • DriveTime   •

Tracae, our Cancel Anytime Lease allows you to cancel your lease and return your vehicle to DriveTime at any time you want, no need to wait for the lease to end! We’re sorry to hear you want to end your lease, but if you’d like to do so, simply call or drive into your dealership, we’ll take care of the rest and you can always purchase or lease from us again in the future!

  7. Tasharrya   •

My family is expanding, so i will be needing a bigger vehicle. So i will be trading in the vehicle I’m currently leasing. My question is will i be eligible for all cars or only starter class vehicles? When i chose the vehicle i have now, I only had the choice between 3 vehicles.

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Tasharrya – congratulations on an expanding family! In regards to eligibility for other lease classes – it’s definitely dependent on how long you’ve been in your current lease with us, as well down payment. Contact your local dealership and they’ll be able to tell you which vehicles you can lease and exactly how much you will need to put down.

  8. Melissa   •

I would like to know how you determine the monthly payments?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Melissa – monthly payments are determined by type of vehicle and down payment. When it comes to a lease, the more money you put down at the time of lease, the lower you can make your monthly payment.

  9. Angel   •

Is a lease from drivetime biweekly payments or monthly payments? I hope its monthly payments. I am considering leasing from drivetime

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Angel – there is certainly the option of monthly payments, but it will be dependent on a few things. Contact your local dealership for their current lease inventory, and they’ll be able to work with you to see what your payments will be!

  10. James   •

I have seen a vehicle im interested in but while doing a live chat session, my questions have not been answered regarding it. The vehicle is a 2008 Ford Taurus X. It is a crossover SUV thing. Is this classified as a starter vehicle?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi James – It will be dependent on the dealership. Definitely give your local dealership a call. They’ll be able to provide you with more information such as down payment as well as what starter vehicles are available!

What if a person had a car repossessed by Drive Time a few years back. Will they still qualify for the lease program?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Michael – Absolutely! We often allow customers to purchase or lease from DriveTime after a repossession or bankruptcy. I recommend you talk with your local dealership and see what vehicles you are approved for, or if our new Cancel Anytime Lease allows more flexibility for you!
