7 Frequently Asked Questions About Buying a Used Car from DriveTime

Here are the top seven most commonly asked used car buying questions asked at our dealerships.

We contacted five of our dealerships to help us out with composing the perfect answers. Shout out to North 45 in Houston, Bell Road in Phoenix, Decatur in Las Vegas, Beechmont in Cincinnati, and Havana in Denver – you guys rock!

Without further ado, here’s our FAQ:

1.      What will my down payment be? Am I able to take the car home today and make payments on the down payment?

You can get approved on drivetime.com and know your down payment before you start shopping. And if you have all of the items listed in #3 below, there’s a great chance you can be driving your new-to-you car home today!

DriveTime does not offer the opportunity to make payments on the down payment. However, we do offer a reservation program. The DriveTime reservation program allows you to hold the car of your choice for up to seven days, but you cannot drive the vehicle off the lot until the down payment is fully paid. Reservation payments are also 100% refundable.

2.      Am I approved?

Yes, everyone is approved! The terms of our auto loan are tailored specifically to your unique financial situation. We utilize our own financial model that differs from a typical credit scoring system.  However, we do have special programs designed specifically for customers with a high FICO score, so DriveTime is not just for people with credit challenges.

3.      What do I need to bring with me to get into a vehicle?

To get into a vehicle you need to bring your:

  • Driver’s license
  • Proof of income (which is determined through a pay stub)
  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of residence (which is usually a utility bill)

4.      How long does the process take? Can I drive it home today? Do I need to come in to finish the application?

Each customer needs to complete the full application at a local DriveTime dealership. This is so we can verify your proof of income, residency, and insurance. The overall process time varies between each customer, but typically takes between 45 minutes and two hours.

The DriveTime experience is unique because we put the process in your hands. We allow the customer to dictate how the sales process will unfold. We first ask if you would prefer to sit down and get approved for a loan or view our inventory to find a vehicle perfectly matched for you. From there, the entire process is entirely in your control.

5.       Are your prices higher compared to other used car dealers?

The cost of our vehicles are fairly priced compared to our competitors. We offer a vehicle protection plan for up to 5 years/50,000 miles that covers the main components of your car to provide you years of worry-free driving. A complimentary 30-day warranty is also included on all cars.

6.      Why does the mileage seem high?

Mileage on our used cars can vary quite a bit, but we try to keep the mileage on our cars between 45,000 and 70,000 miles. We even have cars on our lots as low as 20,000 miles or less! Although the mileage can sometimes be a little on the high end, you should keep in mind our warranty offer and our multi-point inspections of each and every vehicle. We like to have a healthy mix of vehicles on our lot so our customers have multiple options.

7.       Are you really able to help me if I have no credit?

Absolutely, at DriveTime we have the belief everyone deserves the chance to drive a great, used car. Don’t believe me? Take two minutes and see for yourself with our online approval and get your down payment instantly.

I have 3 questions… First for the proof of income my pay stubs are online do I need to print them out? Second for the proof of residence I live with my mom take care of her and the bills are in my dads name but it’s on all my mail and license is that okay? Last but not least I just renewed my license would the paper one be acceptable? Thanks for your time

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Marsha, great questions! I’m not 100% certain about your license question, so please give your local dealership a call and they would be able to let you know for certain. Or, you can e-mail us at approvals@drivetime.com and one of our customer service reps can find out for sure.

      • donna   •

I see lots of questions about down pmts and the answers are evasive and directed to dealership. Can you just answer what will down pmt/pmts be on say a $12,000 car with poor credit?

        • DriveTime   •

Hi Donna – There are many factors that go into determining what the down payment will be for a vehicle and it is different for each person. In order to provide you with the most accurate answer, we recommend getting approved online then stopping into your local dealership to discuss your options with them!

          • James Foster   •

You said i was approved for $20000. Is this the ammount pre finance charge, or is this the ammount after financing is figured into?

          • DriveTime   •

Hi James – This amount would be the vehicle price we recommend you begin looking at based on the information you provided. We’d love for you to visit your local dealership to talk to one of our Sales Advisors about getting approved and driving home with a great new-to-you vehicle!

          • hector   •

why cant I get a car from a dive time in a different state

          • DriveTime   •

Hi Hector – We will usually be able to transfer a vehicle from one location to another. Please give our Customer Relations Department a call at 888-977-7153 and they will be able to give you more information regarding whether or not we can transfer the vehicle you are looking at to a DriveTime location near you!

          • MICHELLE   •

Don’t bother their “approved down payment” “know your down payment before you shop” is nothing more than a bait and switch tactic. Once you find a vehicle GUARENTEED the down payment jumps to $1000-1500 more than what you were approved at. That’s how it went for me! Said approved for 495 down payment but once drove all the way there the down amt jumped to $1800…there is no such thing as an honest dealership anymore

          • Customer Relations   •

            Hello Michelle,
Thank you for providing your feedback regarding your recent visit to your local DriveTime dealership. I do apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused you. In regards to the Down Payment, please know that we try our best to provide an accurate estimate of the down payment amount during the online pre-approval process. However, we are unable to make an official offer for the down payment required until our customers visit the Dealership. This is due to the fact that approval and down payment options are subject to change based on documents provided to the dealership, as well as the specifications of the desired vehicle. If you have any other questions please contact my team at (888) 290-0148.
            Thank You,
            Missy-Customer Relations

      • Lowell lockett   •

How much on average are people monthly payment?

        • DriveTime   •

Hi, Lowell – Great question! Our main goal is to set you up for success in your vehicle and make sure you have a comfortable payment. Once you’re approved, we will sit down with you, talk to you about your budget and come up with a payment that works for you. If you haven’t yet, visit Drivetime.com to get approved and schedule an appointment! Thank you!

      • Robert   •

Hi.I applied for a vehicle online and the application said that I was approved.I just wanted to make sure as some dealerships tell you that you weren’t really approved and that the application was just a acceptance. Will I run into these kinds of barriers or is the online app the real approval?

        • Customer Relations   •

          Hello Robert,

Thank you for reaching out. Please know that we try our best to provide our customers with accurate information during the online pre-approval process, however, we are unable to make an actual offer until our customers visit the dealership. This is due to the fact that the approval is subject to change based on documents provided at the dealership, as well as the specifications of the desired vehicle. If you have any additional questions please contact our sales team directly at (800) 965-8042.

          Thank You,
          Missy – Customer Relations

            can i buy w car with a permit ?

  2. Robert   •

Hey you there drive time I was just wondering if I could get a vehicle I have no credit I do have an income I’ve been to several car dealerships that say credit is no problem but at the end of the day I did not get approved I would love to get a vehicle I need one very bad I’m on disability and I need one to go to see doctors and get groceries and all above so if you could get back with me I would really appreciate it

    • DriveTime   •

      Hey Robert,

When we say you are approved, we mean it! We approve everyone as long as you have verifiable income, residence and a valid driver’s license. Have you started our online approval? You’ll know what amount you are approved for within 2 minutes and can even start shopping online. You can click here to get started.

  3. Mark anthony   •

Can I still lease a vehical if I dont have a valid license

    • DriveTime   •

Mark, unfortunately you can’t. The basics are a down payment, proof of income, valid driver’s license, proof of residence, full insurance for a purchase and liability-only insurance for a lease. The requirements for getting the vehicle registered can vary from state to state. Time for a trip to the MVD?

    • Caitlin   •

Is the “Know Your Down Payment” pre-approval application going to put a hard inquiry on my credit report? Or do they do the hard pull at the dealership?

      • Customer Relations   •

        Hello Caitlin,

Thank you for reaching out! To answer your question, we check your credit when you submit an application online, and it would be considered a hard inquiry. When you visit one of our locations, our sales team will just verify the information you submitted online to ensure everything is accurate.

Should you have any additional questions regarding the buying process or qualifications, please contact your local dealership for further assistance. You can visit our website, at DriveTime.com, to locate your local dealership.

        Best wishes,

        DriveTime Customer Relations

  4. Mark anthony   •

Would I be able to add a cosigner and include my income

    • DriveTime   •

      Hey Mark,

Yes, you can always add a co-signer to your loan or lease as long as they have the required documentation.

Good luck on your vehicle hunt!

  5. necia   •

I have an appointment tomorrow and I talked with a representative about me not having my license and she told me my state id was fine..how true is this?

    • DriveTime   •

      Necia,

The only ID we accept is a Matricula (Mexican Consulate) ID card. This is acceptable without a driver’s license for leasing only and only in Texas, Arizona and California.

IDs are acceptable for cobuyers with a licensed driver as the buyer on all our other leases and sales.

  6. april   •

what are the down payment? i have three hundred dollars!

    • DriveTime   •

      Hi April,

Down payment will be dependent upon your own approval and which vehicle you would like to purchase or lease. Have you started your online approval yet?

  7. Janelle   •

Can I purchase or lease a car from one of your dealerships if I live out of state. I live in Illinois and the closest dealer is in Indiana

    • DriveTime   •

Janelle, you sure can! First, start your approval online, then contact the dealership you want to visit to find out exactly what documenation they will need from you. It may be different since you’re an out-of-towner.

  8. Kandice   •

if I had a previous repossession from Drivetime (long story), would I be able to finance another vehicle there?

    • DriveTime   •

  9. Bird   •

Hey drive time I have a question if I don’t have no income but I have my driving L. Can I use my boyfriend income because he’s name going to be on the car long as he have his stuff would that be ok for me to do?

  10. Myranda   •

Do I have to have held my job for a certain amount of time? And do I have to have insurance before I drive off in the car? Can they tell me how much my down payment will be over the phone?

  11. Katie   •

I was wondering if we could finance 2 vehicles at the same time. We currently had a loan with you and paid it off and my husband just got a new loan with you but i need a new car and really would like to stick with Drive Time

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Katie, it certainly is a possibility! I would recommend giving us a call at 1-888-781-5455 so we can review your account and let you know what the next steps would be. Thanks for your continued business and we hope to see you back soon!

      • Allan   •

Hello Drivetime, I have brought a car from Drivetime two years ago, I was wondering can I trade-in that one, and get a new one

        • DriveTime   •

Hey Allan, depending on your account history and amount owed on the vehicle it’s possible we can take the vehicle in on trade. Please give your local dealership a call, let them know what you’d like to do and they’ll give you the next steps – it’s actually a really simple process. Thanks for thinking of us again!

    • Samantha   •

Hello, Kate! I was looking I it DriveTime for a car. I keep reading bad reviews about them. Could you maybe give me some pointers, and tips on DriveTime?

      • DriveTime   •

Hi Samantha – We are happy to hear you are interested in financing a vehicle through DriveTime. We recommend getting approved online then stopping into your local dealership to discuss your options with them!

  12. Shaun   •

Do I have to have held my job for a certain amount of time? And do I have to have insurance before I drive off in the car? Can they tell me how much my down payment will be over the phone?
    Reply

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Shaun, all great questions! Insurance and verifiable employment are requirements and down payments will vary depending on your approval and vehicle you’d like to take home. I’d recommend giving one of our customer service representatives a call at 1-888-781-5455 who can answer these questions for you and any others you may have.

  13. ray   •

My girlfriend was looking at a 2005 chevy trailblazer and now i see only drivetime that has a trailblazer is out of state. do you transfer a vehicle or try finding one around my state if a customer wants a certain vehicle? She wants a suv like a trailblazer and had her heart and soul set on one she saw at dealership here in town but by time her payday came it was gone.

    • DriveTime   •

      Ray,

Sorry to hear your girlfriend missed out on her Trailblazer! Luckily, you have a couple options. If you find another Trailblazer within your state at another dealership, we can transfer it. Just get in touch with your local dealership. the other option is if you find another Trailblazer and aren’t ready to purchase, you can put it on layaway and we will hold the vehicle for you until you’re ready. We add new vehicles to our website every day, so keep checking back!

  14. Jasper Stevens   •

Can someone who doesn’t live in a state with drive time dealership come and purchase a vehicle from a state with a drive time dealership?

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Jasper, typically this is not a problem if you are looking to purchase a vehicle from us. However, we can’t lease vehicles to out of state customers. As all registration and title requirements vary by state, I’d recommend contacting the dealership you’d like to visit to get the details.

  15. will   •

If I was approved for more than what the car is do I still have to make a down payment

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Will, we required down payments on every vehicle sale or lease. You will be able to find out your down payment amount once you choose your vehicle and stop into a dealership.

  16. natasha williams   •

Do you have to make a certain amount monthly to be approved?

  17. Diana   •

I am going to the dmv to re new it but not till my next day off witch is next week.. Would this be a problem to purchase a vehile since I have an appointment this Saturday..
    Thanks

  18. Bri   •

I only have a learners permit but a decent job and money for a down payment, what are my options my driving test for my license isnt until next month. Im in the state of ga

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Bri, congrats on getting your learners permit! Purchasing a car requires someone 18 years of age or older to sign the contracts, so unfortunately, if you are not yet 18 you can’t purchase a vehicle. Some states will allow you to be a co-buyer, so I would recommend checking with your local dealership.

  19. Megan   •

How much would a down payment be??

  20. Mark   •

Hello, I need a vehicle and I am Handicap and on disability. How much income does a person have to have to be able to Lease or buy are car? at this time I cant speak loud enough to call and ask

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Mark, anyone can lease a car for $895 down and it varies if you are looking to purchase. You can e-mail our approvals department at approvals@drivetime.com to get some additional info, or go to our website and use the chat feature in the bottom right of the screen.

  21. Lori   •

I was approved for a loan with drivetime and would like to know if my trade in would count as my down payment.

    Thank you!

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Lori, it would certainly count towards your down payment. Give us a call at 888-781-5455 or visit your local dealership to have an appraisal on your vehicle completed.

  22. Katherine   •

Hi I had a question I just got approved ,but my only problem is I am self-employed but my boss deposits my checks to my account when I go to the dealership am I able too take my bank statements too show you guys I do have a income?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Katherine, I’d recommend giving our online approvals department a call at 888-781-5455 and let them know exactly what proof of income you do have to see if we can accept that, or what we would need in order to get you approved.

  23. Julia   •

    Hi,

I was told that even without a drivers license, I can still purchase/finance a car if my cosigner has a valid license. How true is this? (Georgia)

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Julia, that sounds about right, but do give your local dealership a call to verify – they are the experts on what your state’s requirements are!

  24. Stephanie   •

My fiancé is self employed, but he has 2 years of tax returns. And I recently started a new job, how many check stubs would I need? And he has a license but I don’t could I be a co signer for him? And how are the payments calculated, if we make more money will the payments be higher? And I noticed in fine print it says that 200 will be due biweekly is that the same for every income and every car or could the payments be less based on qualifications? Sorry I know I have a lot of questions.

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Stephanie, those are all great questions! It sounds like your income qualification is ok, for both you and your fiance (congrats on the engagement!). The payments are based on your individual approval, down payment and the vehicle you want to purchase. The disclaimer at the bottom you are referring to is only for lease vehicles and not purchases. The only want to truly answer 100% of your questions is to first to get approved online, then stop into a dealership to find your perfect vehicle and calculate the payments.

  25. Rhyan   •

Is there a minimum income requirement to purchase a vehicle?

  26. Mae   •

I have a question. If I am paying a monthly payment for my car through you all and I lose my job and cannot afford the vehicle, what do I need to do and what would the consequences be?

    • DriveTime   •

Mae, get in touch with our customer service relations team as soon as you can so they can review your account and let you know what your options are. They can be reached at 1-888-290-0148.

  27. stephen   •

Hey Drive Time, can I use my current vehicle as a down payment to either purchase or lease a vehicle?

  28. daniela   •

If you get approved online is it guaranteed that you will get vehicle even if I have poor credit?

  29. Tyrecia   •

How do I go about getting insurance if I don’t know what car im getting yet ?

  30. Shay   •

Hey DT, I was very interested in the 2012 Chrysler 200 in my city…& I read about the $895 down payment , but later read that the $895 only applies to starter cars, I’m in need of a car ASAP & don’t have much to put down. How will I know which car is a starter car for the $895 down payment or it doesn’t matter? And also since I’ll be leasing a vehicle, do I need full coverage or just the state required insurance? Thanks a TON!!!

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Shay, thanks for checking out DriveTime! The best way to find out exactly what you will need for a down payment and insurance requirements is to call or stop into your local dealership. They will be the most helpful in getting into your Chrysler 200 as soon as possible!

  31. J   •

Hi drivetime! I filled out an online application and was approved up to a certain amount. My concern is, will that amount change once I visit a drivetime location and they run my credit? My score is low but my income is high, and I have pay stubs to show it. My nearest dealership is 3 hours away, I just don’t want to drive that far to be disappointed when I don’t qualify for the amount I need for my vehicle of interest. Thanks!

    • DriveTime   •

Hey J, the down payment amount will change depending on what vehicle you want to purchase. I’d recommend giving the dealership a call that you want to purchase from and see what can be completed before you make the 3-hour trip, I wouldn’t want any surprises either! You can search and get in touch with your closest dealership by clicking here.

  32. Jeff   •

Hey, I purchased a vehicle through y’all about a year ago. I was wondering if it is possible to gert another one. I purchased a suv and I’m currently needed a truck. I thought I could make it work but I miss having one now. I enjoyed using y’all…

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Jeff, thanks for thinking of us again, we love our repeat customers! It is certainly possible to get another vehicle from us, as long as you meet our income requirements. You can start by either getting approved online or getting in touch with your local dealership, who can better explain your options based on your account history. Hopefully we have the truck you want in stock!

      • Jeff   •

Thanks for the response. Also will I have to pay another deposit to get another vehicle or does the suv I’m trading count towards it. I’ve always made my full payments on time.

  33. candy   •

    If I’m allowed 1700 and I see a car for 1500 will I need a down payment?

  34. cassandra   •

Hi if I have been leasing a car with drivetime in vegas for a year now and I wanted to move to seattle in 5 months would I be able to take the car with and transfer or continue the lease??

  35. Laura   •

If I’m already pre approved can I co-sign for my sister? Do you guys only lease the vehicles or can we purchase them?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Laura, you are able to co-sign for your sister as long as you meet the minimum income requirements, so you’ll have to check with your local dealership. The majority of our vehicles are for sale and each dealership a selection of vehicles that are available to lease.

      • Krystina   •

What are the minimum income requirements?

        • Customer Relations   •

Hello Krystina, thanks for reaching out!

Due to the fact that each of our customers are assessed on an individual basis, we do not have a universal minimum income requirement for all of our customers. If you would like additional information on our approval process, please feel free to contact our sales team on our website. Alternatively, if you wish to inquire by phone, you may reach our sales team at (800) 965-8042

          Thank you,
          Jacob – Customer Relations

  36. Brian   •

Hi, i recently filled out the online approval and was approved for $17,000. I was wondering how much i would have to put down on a vehicle in that price range and if trading in my current vehicle is also an option. I have little cash and my fiance and i desperately need a new more reliable vehicle.

  37. Kayla   •

Hi Drivetime. What usually happens when a server/waitress has proof of income ,and makes really good money? Normally nothing can be done for us.

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Kayla! Your bank statements can sometimes be used as additional proof of income. Check with your local dealership since the laws vary by state.

  38. Dinah   •

I was approved with a $1000 down payment..If I get a co signer am I still required to make the down payment??

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Dinah, while a co-signer can certainly help reduce the amount of your down payment, we will still require one.

  39. mekia   •

Who do I talk to find out how much my down payment would be ?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Mekia, after you get approved online you can stop into your local dealership and pick out the vehicle you want. Once you are approved and know which vehicle you want to take home, you will know exactly what down payment you will need!

  40. meka   •

Hello drive time. I spoke to a DT rep in Georgia and he informed me that down payment can be from 0-1000 dollars how true is that?

    • DriveTime   •

Down payments are dependent on your approval and the vehicle you choose, so the range can vary. Many of our customers put down around $1,000 to help lower their bi-weekly or monthly payment.

  41. Lisa   •

Hey I am a first time buyer I have no credit And I have been at my job for three days am I able to still get a car like today or is there another way to prove my income

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Lisa, there are times that we can accept an offer letter or other form of employment verification in lieu of actual paystubs. Feel free to first get approved online then head into your local dealership, who will be able to tell you exactly when you will be able to get a car!

  42. Tamber   •

I was wondering will I need a cosigner

    • DriveTime   •

      Hi Tamber,

At DriveTime, everyone is approved! However, some of our customers add a co-signer to split ownership with another person or to receive better terms for their loan. Have you been approved online yet?

      • Tamber   •

Yes for 17000 I’m going to a dealership tomorrow I just don’t want to get there and they tell me I need a cosigner

  43. kynesha   •

Hi drivetime I was wondering because i have little to no credit would I need a cosigner on a 2008 car

  44. Corey sanders   •

So you have to put down a down payment in order to drive off the lot I have everything else

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Corey, yes, a down payment is typically required for all purchases and leases.

  45. Carl   •

Hi if I cosigned for a car at drive time and I now want to take my name off the lease, would there be any punishment for the actual owner?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Carl, please give our customer service department a call at 1-888-781-5455 for more information on how you can remove yourself as a co-signer.

  46. Chinique   •

Hi guys from drive time,I have a couple of questions.I work through a temporary service is that a problem for me to get a vehicle? If I was approved for up to 17,000 how much of a down payment will I need ,if the car im wanting is 12,000? And I only have 500 for a down payment will that work?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Chinique, since this is a unique situation I would recommend heading into your local DriveTime dealership, explain your current job situation and depending on your approval and the details you provide we can make exceptions or offer alternative solutions.

  47. Jessica   •

Hi I have my permit and my driver’s test is next month I heard if you don’t have a valid DL But your cosigner does I can still purchase/lease a car but what of my cosigner license is an out of state license will I still be able to purchase/lease a car?..

    • DriveTime   •

Jessica, a co-signer is able to purchase or lease a vehicle with an out of state driver’s license. Please contact your local dealership for any specific documentation they may need in order to approve the loan. At this time, we can’t lease vehicles to customers without an in-state license.

  48. Dominic   •

So I see here that you need to have proof of insurance. How am I supposed to get insurance when I don’t have a car. Which would be why I’m going to Drivetime to purchase a car. Maybe it’s a silly question.

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Dominic, no, it’s a good question! You can get proof of insurance once you purchase your vehicle and DriveTime can even help you out with that.

  49. Noble   •

Hi drive time, i recently started a new job. i was wondering if i didnt have enough for a down payment would the drive time bank loan it to me.

    • DriveTime   •

hi Noble, while we can’t loan customers money for a down payment, we do offer a layaway program! Visit your local dealership, choose the car you want and a payment schedule that works for you and we will hold the vehicle for you until you built up enough for your down payment!

  50. Tawny   •

Do I need to put a down payment on a car? I was already approved but not wanting to put a down payment on it is that possible?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Tawny, down payments are usually required but it depends on your approval and the vehicle you want to purchase. Talk with your local dealership and they will be able to let you know exactly what your down payment will be and if you need one.

  51. CJ   •

I’m trying to continue my education in the fall but I owe my school. School is very important to me but I also would like to get a car that’s affordable and a car I can drive back to school. Is their any hope in getting a car?

    • DriveTime   •

Hey CJ, of course! We help thousands of students each year own or lease reliable transportation to get them to and from school. Have you taken 2 minutes to start your approval online?

  52. Jacoryan   •

I had got a approval amount is that accurate or no. Also can I have low monthly payments as of 200-400

  53. Kati   •

Im a co signer on my mothers car, everywhere i have gone i have been told that i would need a co signer because i co signed for her, does this apply at drive time as well?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Kati, being a co-signer previously doesn’t necessarily mean you will need one. DriveTime is known for providing approvals for vehicles that people couldn’t get elsewhere, so there is a chance you can be approved on your own. Have you started our online approval to get started?

      • Kati   •

        Yes i was approved online.

  54. Kia   •

I’m self employed I have my own daycare will I still be approved ?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Kia, as long as you can provide proof of income from your business, you’re approved!

  55. Monica   •

I got a car from DriveTime 2 years ago. I lost my job late last year and fell behind on my payments. Then my car broke down and I couldn’t afford to fix and pay the note, so I called DriveTime and did a voluntary repo about a month ago. Is it possible to get another car from DriveTime now that I’m more stable?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Monica, absolutely! We often allow customers to purchase or lease from DriveTime after a repossession or bankruptcy. I recommend you talk with your local dealership and see what vehicles you are approved for, or if our new Cancel Anytime Lease allows more flexibility for you!

  56. Brittany   •

I am looking to purchase a vehicle, not lease. & I filled out the online thing and it said I was approved for 31000/ but just this week, I was denied for a 10,000 dollar vehicle at another dealer. Is this a guarantee approval, my credit score is only 449

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Brittany, at DriveTime, everyone is approved! To receive your final approval amount and terms, please visit your local dealership. They’ll be able to tell you the specifics of your approval, down payment, monthly payment, APR, etc. after you find the vehicle you want!

  57. latiffany   •

I am currently leasing a vehicle from drivetime. I wanted to know it was possible to transfer the vehicle in my sisters name. She would like the vechile now plus she makes some of the payments to just want to know of its possible

    • DriveTime   •

Hi latiffany, since the lease still requires a contract to be signed, it is possible for your sister to get the vehicle, but it would require her to lease the vehicle directly from us. Please contact your DriveTime dealership for more info and we’ll be happy to help!

  58. Jonathan   •

Hey I am looking at a couple trucks on here and there all more than what I was aproved for would there be any way I could still get one of them? Like have a bigger down payment or something? And if I see a car online that is at a different location can it be transferred from anywhere within the state?

    • DriveTime   •

Hey Jonathan, it’s certainly possible to still get the truck you want by putting down a larger down payment or by utilizing a co-signer. We can also transfer any vehicle from another dealership within the state, just let us know what and where it is! I recommend heading into your local dealership to see about being able to get the truck you have your eye set on, they’d be happy to help!

  59. Leaundra   •

I bought a car about a year and a half ago. It’s given me a few problems. I want to trade it again for another vehicle at drivetime. How would that affect me payments?

    • DriveTime   •

Leaundra, sorry to hear you’ve had a couple problems with your vehicle! Hopefully we were able to get them fixed for you. Depending on how long ago you purchased your vehicle, you may be eligible for our CHAMP program which allows you trade-in your current vehicle and get a new one for little or no money down and at a lower interest rate! You can call our customer service line at 1-888-781-5455 for more info or stop into your local dealership.

  60. Thomas   •

Hey! I was approved for up to $17,800 on the online approval. I’ve been looking at a car that y’all have on the lot for $13,000. Would I be more likely to get a smaller down payment option because of this? Or a better interest rate or something?

    • DriveTime   •

Thomas, it’s certainly possible! Have you visited your local dealership yet to get your final approval and to choose your vehicle? They’ll be able to let you know exactly what your down payment and interest rate are.

  61. Jonathan   •

How do I show proof of residency if I live with my parents?

  62. Tonya   •

Got approved, have all the documentation I need, but as far as down payment I don’t have cash, but DO have a car to trade in? Will this work??

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Tonya, we do take trades! The value of the trade can certainly be applied as your down payment. Your local dealership can provide you with the trade-in value of your vehicle, so please stop in or call them at any time.

  63. Joey   •

How much are the payments average a month? Or how do u pay it off

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Joey, the payments on vehicles vary depending on your personal approval, the vehicle you choose and your down payment. We offer many different options to make your car payments, from AutoPay, pay by text message, pay in person at any Walmart, Kmart or CheckFreePay, online, by phone or by mail and MoneyGram.

  64. Jonathan   •

Hey would y’all transfer a car just to be test driven or do I have to by the car for it to be transferred?

  65. Lori   •

can you tell me how long you finance your vehicles for?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Lori, great question! The term on our auto loans vary, but most customers decide to finance their vehicles for 60 months. It can be shorter on longer depending on your approval and desired monthly payment.

  66. Wilson   •

Hello DriveTime, I was just approved for $16000 and I recently got my permit. I am older than 18 and my driving exam isn’t for another 3 weeks. I need a car ASAP and I have the enough for a $1100 down payment. My question is, can my brother, who has a valid drivers license, take the car out of the lot for me even though he isn’t a co-signer?

  67. Eddie   •

Hello, your website says I’ve been approved up to a certain amount. I’ve had a repo about 6 months ago and would like to know if that would pose a problem. Also would like to know what would be the highest down payment woult you guys require for a vehicle saying about 18000.

  68. dewayne   •

    hi drivetime,
So I have plenty for a down payment and can provide everything needed but how long do i need to have been on my job? I transferred jobs 4 months ago.

  69. Jonathan   •

Hey I was wondering I’m 18 I have no credit what so ever would I need to have a cosigner?

  70. Jared   •

    Hi drivetime,
I am currently leasing a vehicle with you guys, since it is a leased vehicle do I need have full coverage insurance or can I get liability insurance, I live in Texas

  71. wes   •

How much would it cost to have one vehicle transferred to another dealer in the same state?

    • DriveTime   •

Zilch, nada, cero…we transfer vehicles for free!

  72. Jared   •

What kind of insurance do you need for a leased vehicle

  73. Elizabeth   •

What is the lowest interest rate your company offers?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Elizabeth, our lowest offered interest rate varies, however, at this time it is 5.9%, on approved credit.

  74. Jared   •

Way to ignore my post twice drivetime

  75. Elizabeth   •

Well I have been a loyal customer for 7 years tried to buy my 3rd vehicle and my current rate is 12.9 and they were trying to make me pay for my warranty and give me 15.9 interest and only $1,600 for my trade. They had the same vehicle there for sale for $14985. Can you tell me why the Ocala store was trying to screw me like that? Especially when I got $5000 for my last trade. These are the same vehicles I bought twice just newer years. Great customer service.

  76. Elizabeth   •

I am assuming there is no reason for this inadequate customer service is the reason I have not gotten a response. It is ok, I bought a brand new vehicle for a 2.9 interest rate with the same monthly payment that I had with your dealership. Good luck to the rest of the people that get suckered into your company.

  77. Amanda   •

Hi drive time I was wondering if you have a layaway and you have 700 left can you pay it off with a check and drive same day home?

  78. Brittany   •

Hello I wanted to know if I have a license but don’t have auto insurance yet until I the vehicle is it okay if I set up insurance right then and there and if my income is only 400 a month and varies because of hours will my payments be affordable and does title and tags included in down payment ?

    • DriveTime   •     Author

Hi Brittany, you don’t have to have auto insurance until you purchase or lease a vehicle, so the same day is ok. However, you will likely need a co-signer and/or additional income in order to afford a vehicle. The titling fee, tags, registration and documentation fees are not typically included in the down payment.

      • Teaira   •

Although the title, tags, & registration aren’t included in the down payment? Are they included at all? Like in the monthly payments?

        • DriveTime   •

Hi Teaira – At time of purchase, there will be a fee that will cover your title, tags and registration.

          • Nicole   •

Then why am I having to pay 700$ for my title tag and registration as well as what I have already paid for down payment and monthly payments

          • DriveTime   •

Hi Nicole – The price for your title, tags and registration will be dependent on what state you are in when you purchase your vehicle and these fees are usually bundled together at the time of purchase. You can definitely give our Customer Relations Department a call regarding this at 877-881-1123.

          • Shauna mccollum   •

We are low on funds and I desperately need my tag done can you guys pay for my tag title and tax I got pulled over bc I can’t afford the tag shoo now I’m stuck at home and kids missing preschool 🙁 like tack into our amount of the car

          • DriveTime   •

Hi Shauna – You can definitely give our Customer Relations Department a call at 877-881-1123 and they will be able to help you with any questions you might have regarding your tags, title and registration. They will also be able to help with your payment schedule.

  79. Mona   •

This is going to be a really wierd question but I go a car from you guys 3 years ago and was laid off my job so I could not make the payments and my car was repossessed. Could I ever finance with you guys again in the future?

    • DriveTime   •     Author

Mona, Thanks for thinking of us again! Certainly, we love to give our prior customers another chance at vehicle ownership. Feel free to stop into your local dealership or start your approval process online.

  80. Deanna   •

    Hey ,
if I have a co-signer on my application , will this show up on their credit ?

    • DriveTime   •     Author

Hi Deanna, yes, co-signers are financially responsible for the loan, so it will be reported on their own credit reports.

  81. Daniel   •

Hi Drive time , I was just pre-approved for a loan what do I do now??

  82. mike   •

Im a cosigner for and individual. But the individual didn’t have income to get a car. So they used mine. Ad a cosigner they shouldn’t use my income they should use the person actually purchasing the car correct.

    • DriveTime   •     Author

      Hey Mike,

As a co-signer, a bank will use your credit history and income for the approval. If you co-signed for a DriveTime customer’s loan, feel free to give us a call at 1-888-781-5455 with any additional questions.

  83. Karen   •

Hi Drive time. I need to help my son get a car to find a job. My question is I am currently paying for my own car. Is it possible for me to get approved for another car loan if I have an open one.

  84. Chazzidy   •

What would happen if I’m leasing a car and move to a new state with out having a job . Could we negotiate a payment plan that would let me go 2 months without paying my note then pay it back when I get a new job?

  85. christine   •

Hi DriveTime, can I use my current car as a trade-in, but for the down payment?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Christine – it would certainly count towards your down payment. Give us a call at 888-418-1212 or visit your local dealership to have an appraisal completed on your vehicle.

  86. Paola   •

I had a previous repossession with DriveTime back in 2006. Will I be able to finance a car with a co-buyer?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Paola – yes, it is still possible to purchase or lease a vehicle from us if you have had a prior repossession, especially with a co-buyer. I recommend getting approved online then stopping into your local dealership to discuss your options with them!

  87. Lacresha   •

i got my car at drivetime its be a year and three months i have big family i somthing a little bigger . Can i trade it at another dealership if i owe on it….

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Lacresha – depending on your account history and amount owed on the vehicle, it’s possible we can take the vehicle in on trade. Please give your local dealership a call, let them know what you’d like to do and they’ll give you the next steps. Thanks for thinking of us again!

  88. Antonia   •

Since I don’t have car insurance, when I come there will they help me with that???? & will I have to pay the car insurance amount up front?

  89. calisa   •

If I’m approved for 1700 and I see another car I want but its 2600 can I still get it

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Calisa – it is possible with a cosigner or increasing your down payment. This is definitely something your local dealership can assist with in showing you your options!

  90. Danny   •

If I’m approved for 18,000 and the car is 14,500 do I need a down payment ?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Danny – yes, you will still need a down payment. Visit your local dealership to discuss your options further! They’ll be able to tell you exactly how much is needed for your down payment, as well as your interest rate.

  91. Alysia   •

I have the lease to own program currently in Pensacola Fl, I have had this car 07 Chrysler Pacifica since 03/14 til current. I have had some minor issues in the last month with the car.
The radio would cut in and out. Then weeks later the lights would flicker on dashboard and the headlights with radio cutting out. Then it would not do it at all for a while then would start back up a week later.
Then it started shutting off when i come to a stop and starting right back up sometimes I would have to start it back up after putting in neutral or park. Then this week for the first time it cut all the way off no emergency lights nothing would work waited about 2 mins and played with the stick sliding it back to park 2 times and everything came back on. 1 day later left the store attempted to start the car wont start just makes clicking noise. All lights radio and everything comes on, tried to jump it nothing. I’ve spoke with customer service they told me to take it to a shop and then pay 100.00 for deductible and then the shop would call averex to see whats in warranty. I’m just really upset i’m not able to drive a car i’m paying for and cant be told in advance whats in warranty so i can see how much money i need to have save before repairs.
    Please help.

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Alysia – we’d like to look into this issue further. Please send us a message on our Facebook page with your account information and name on the account and we can look into this issue further.

  92. anthony   •

Hi drivetime do you guys include insurance or do i need it prior to the visit?

  93. Samantha   •

I have gone through the online application and I’ve been approve for any vehicle on the lot . Will I have to put a huge down payment considering the fact that I am approved for any and all vehicles on the lot ?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Samantha! It will depend on the price of the vehicle. Contact your local dealership to discuss your options further! They’ll be able to tell you exactly how much is needed for your down payment, as well as your interest rate.

  94. ray   •

I was considering purchasing a vehicle from drive time, but had heard a story from a friend that although current on payments, her car was repossessed because she had let her insurance lapsed. The drive time rep told her even if she could purchase a policy on her payday 4 days later, she would be unable to reclaim her vehicle

  95. ray   •

Basically what I want to know is under these circumstances would you not have a legal right to take possession of your vehicle if insurance was reinstated within a reasonable time

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Ray – at the time of signing on the lot, we require full coverage insurance. If you need to reinstate the vehicle’s insurance after you’ve started making payments on the vehicle, we recommend calling our Customer Relations Department at 800-965-8043.

  96. Alesia McCloud   •

Do I have to be on my job a certain amount of time and if I work at a temp to permanent job is that ok?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Alesia – since this is a unique situation, I would recommend heading into your local dealership, explain your current job situation and depending on your approval and the details you provide we can make exceptions or offer alternative solutions.

  97. DriveTime   •

Hi Jordan – You would have to be 18 in order to enter into a contract with us.

  98. CD   •

Hi, I was wondering if I get my dad or mom to co-sign, will they have any responsibility for the payments?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi CD – as a cosigner, your parent will be responsible for payments if you are late or unable to make a payment. As long as you stay up to date with your payments, your parent will not have to pay for you. If you have more questions, or want to see what your payments will look like, give your local dealership a call and they’ll show you your options!

  99. DriveTime   •

Hi KD – Since laws vary by state, we want to make sure you receive the correct information. I would recommend contacting your local dealership and explaining your situation. They’ll be able to look into your situation further.

  100. chris   •

we got a car in 2012,we was wondering how low do we need to get whats owed on it to be able to trade it in on something else???we had a new baby really needing something with more room…thankschris

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Chris – congratulations on the new baby! Depending on your account history and amount owed on the vehicle, it’s possible we can take the vehicle in on trade. Please give your local dealership a call, let them know what you’d like to do and they’ll give you the next steps.

  101. Megan   •

Hi, I have a steady job and income, and I would like to lease a car. Do I have to be 18? I have my license and all of the correct paperwork.

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Megan – you do need to be at least 18 years of age in order to enter into a contract with us.

  102. Ginger   •

I’ve done the online preapproval and got preapproval for $20,000. If I’m looking at a vehicle that is $17,000 what would be my down payment?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Ginger! Great question! It’s going to depend on a couple of other factors – if you have a trade-in, if you currently owe on your current vehicle, etc. – so the best thing to do would be to contact your local dealership and let them know you’re interested in the $17,000 vehicle. They’ll be able to tell you exactly how much your down payment will be.

  103. Xavier   •

So i have decided that DriveTime is the place for me but i only make about $870 a month right now. I was approved for like 16000 but I do not want a high monthly payment. I dont have money saved and need a car fast! what are my options? Also, when leasing a car is the $200 biweekly payment set in stone or is there a way to make that lower? HELP! lol

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Xavier! All great questions. The best thing to do would be to contact your local dealership and let them know exactly how much you make monthly. After they have this information, they can go over options that best fit your lifestyle.

  104. Jennifer Willoughby   •

I am a bartender and I was wondering if my General Manager could write a letter on letterhead proving my income status and how long I have worked for the the company. Would this work for proof. Thank you!

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Jennifer – definitely obtain a letter on letterhead from your GM. Our dealership may have a form they’ll require to be filled out by your GM as well that they can fax over, but the letter proving your income status is a good step to take for proof. Definitely contact your local dealership to see if they can fax over the form beforehand.

  105. Alicia   •

If a person doesn’t have an income but they need a car can they use a cosigner who has an income?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Alicia – yes, both parties can be approved to purchase a vehicle. Keep in mind that the cosigner becomes a responsible party for the vehicle and loan.

  106. leann   •

Ok I have a few questions. I don’t make much and know I need full coverage to drive. I don’t make much and would have to have very low monthly payments at the moment. I don’t have good credit that I know of. How low can you do your payments? And for proof of.residency all I have is papers from my health coverage. Would those work?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Leann – for proof of residency, do you have any bills with your address on it? Or maybe your lease agreement? Or a W-2?

In regards to monthly payments, we take a few things into consideration – such as down payment and monthly income – so we recommend contacting your local dealership and they can tell you exactly how much you can be paying monthly for a vehicle.

  107. melissa   •

I was approverd for $18,273 bt using my husband’s month income.because I am a stay at home mom. Since I have no job and my income comes from my husband would he have to be a cosigner

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Melissa – yes, he would need to be your cosigner.

  108. Christopher   •

Why does when everyone on here asks a question, DT just says visit your dealer. This online advice is not good advice. There just trying to get you in one of there locations

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Chris – many times, we can answer a question only to a certain extent, more information is usually needed. Rather than provide the wrong details – down payment numbers, cars available, etc. – we ask readers to visit the website to view their dealership’s inventory online, or give them a call with their specific information to receive a good answer. We definitely don’t want to force anyone into our dealerships, but want to make sure they’re getting the information they need.

    • Bree   •

That’s rude, they are here to help and are very effective with that when they can be.

  109. Sarah   •

Hi DT, my credit score is only 500. Is that a problem?

  110. Jason   •

Hi..I live in Alabama and have 2 questions. Can a lease be done or just purchase and is there a certain length on how long I have been employed before I could get approved?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Jason – to answer your questions:
Lease – Yes, a lease can be done. We have a separate lease inventory which you can view at your local dealership.

Employment – You’ll need to provide proof of income for three months. If you haven’t been employed for that long, you’ll need to fill out our Employment Verification Form, which a sales associate will walk through with you!

  111. Lareese   •

    Hi DriveTime,

I have poor credit & just had my vehicle repossessed about a month ago. I made about 2200 a month, now about 3000. I can make a 2500-3000 down payment. Will you all be able to help me?

  112. Alysia   •

    Hi Drivetime,
I am currently leasing a vehicle with you guys since 04/01/2014 to current. I am wanting to currently trade this vehicle in for another lease vehicle. How do i got about doing so? Also what will i need to do this? Such as a new down payment or can i apply my 500.00 credit. Or do i need to pay my current note and a down payment?
I really want to trade in Friday on my payday. I am located in Pensacola , Fl.
    Thanks

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Alysia – you can definitely trade in your vehicle for another lease! You can also apply your credit to the down payment, but will still be responsible for the difference. Contact your local dealership to schedule a visit!

  113. Bianca   •

I was approved for a loan, but I need to know how much the down payment would be before I make a 2 hour drive to Glen Burnie

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Bianca – give your local dealership a call and they can take your information over the phone. Let them know you are two hours away and they’ll make sure to give you all the information you need before you make the trip.

  114. Amanda   •

Hey do you work with people on the down payment like maybe have them pay more the first few months until the down payment is paid off

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Amanda – we have a vehicle reservation program and you can make payments towards your down payment. Your application is good for 45 days, so you’ll have that time to pay off your down payment before getting the vehicle. Definitely contact your local dealership and they can work out a plan with you!

  115. Nina   •

I am self employed and am wondering, what will I need to bring in order to show proof of income?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Nina – you will need to bring you 3 most recent and consecutive months of bank statements in your name for proof of income. We look forward to helping you find a vehicle!

  116. Phil   •

Is there any flexibility on price of vehicle? I see a trend in higher priced cars than market value with your dealership. Knowing that my APR is already going to be high I would like to get closer to the value of the car I buy. Can drive time help there?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Phil – as a no-haggle dealership, the price you see online is the price of the vehicle. If you have a certain price in mind, we can definitely look at vehicles at that pricepoint.

      • Sean Jones   •

Hey drive time I was thinking about stopping by to look at a vehicle but I can only put 500down n the next 2week I put the other 500 along with whatever my payment will b am I able to drive the car away n pay the other 500 and payment n 2weeks. The reason I asked because I need a car bad was hoping you guys can work with me

        • DriveTime   •

Hi Sean – we would like to hear more about your situation and see what we can do. Give your local dealership a call and they’ll ask you a few questions to create a plan that is specific to you.

  117. La'Shawnda Brown   •

Hi I’m looking to lease a car. I can be insured through you guys as opposed to finding my own insurance correct? About how much a month is liability on starter cars like the colbats?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi La’Shawnda – it depends on the state, due to different state regulations. Definitely contact your local dealership. They’ll be able to tell you if they offer that, and if not, provide you with other options so that you have insurance.

  118. Ron   •

Hi, im looking to lease a car and i wanted to know does insurance on a vehicle have to be full coverage or can it be basic?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Ron – it’s definitely dependent on which state you will be leasing. Contact your local dealership and they’ll be able to tell you based on your state’s regulations.

  119. mike   •

I want to trade my current vehicle in for my down payment, what if i still owe on it?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Mike – we have worked with customers in similar situations. We’d essentially take the difference between what your vehicle’s worth and what you currently owe. Stop by your local dealership for a quote!

  120. Shay   •

Hey DriveTime I recently got a job and I am now looking to buy a car. Do I need to have had my job for a certain amount of time before buying with you guys?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Shay – you will need to provide three months worth of pay stubs. If you haven’t been working for that long, definitely give your local dealership a call and they can work with you.

  121. jamie Copeland   •

Hey if I get approved for a drivetime loan do I still need a down payment. N provide my own insurance

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Jamie – you still need a down payment and you will need proof of insurance. We can help you find insurance if you need it.

  122. Tiffany   •

    Hey drive time,
Are the payments made weekly or monthly on your cars. I heard that they were weekly. Just wanted to hear it from the horses mouth.

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Tiffany – generally, payments are dependent on your work payment schedule. Definitely give your local dealership a call
and tell them your situation. They’ll make sure to create a plan for you.

  123. Cassie   •

    Hello!
We current are financing three cars right now. We’re needing to trade two of them in to consolidate to one car simply because we don’t use the third vehicle.
My husband car is financed through you all and we’ve only had it since June 2014. Would we be able to get a second vehicle financed through you right now? (Two financed vehicles with you all). I’ve googled and can’t find an answer!
    Thanks!

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Cassie – because this is a unique case, we’ll definitely need some more information from you to give you an accurate estimate. Contact your local dealership and they’ll go over a plan specific for you.

  124. shaquanda   •

Do you all accept post dated checks for the down payment

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Shaquanda – we do not accept post-dated checks. We accept cash, credit, or debit for a down payment.

  125. mike   •

I dont have any utilities in my name. What would work in its place. I have my rental lease and statements from 401k. Would any of those work.

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Mike – those documents should work! Don’t forget to bring in the other required documents with you: your state-issued ID, proof of income, proof of insurance, and a title if you’re trading in your current vehicle.

  126. China   •

Hey drive time!! I wanna trade my vehicle in as a down payment towards a car but I don’t have my title how does that work

    • DriveTime   •

Hi China! We definitely need the title if you’ll be trading in your vehicle. If your vehicle is currently financed through a bank, we should be able to obtain the title and payoff amount from the bank.

  127. Ira   •

After getting the vehicle with full time coverage , could you switch to liability insurance?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Ira – yes, you can, however with only liability insurance, the vehicle is not covered in the event of an accident or theft.

  128. Dee   •

I have a question about having a down payment. I only have about 200 bucks right now I was wondering if it was still possible to sign and drive and just pay the rest of the down payment with my car note monthly

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Dee – Your local dealership can work out a program with you to put payments towards your down payment. You won’t be able to have the vehicle until the full down payment has been made, but they can definitely create a plan to help you get there.

  129. Asia   •

how ling can i layaway a car ? how do i start ? if the car is in orlando and im in tallahassee ? do i have to start in person or can i over the phone ?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Asia – we have a few options based on your situation. Definitely give your nearest local dealership a call. They’ll get your information and create a program just for you.

  130. Daniel Robertson   •

What is payment schedule after being approved and making the down payment? Weekly, Bi-weekly or Monthly?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Daniel, most of our customers opt for bi-weekly payments to match their payroll’s schedule. There is also an option for traditional monthly payments too. Just let us know what works best for you and we will decide on a payment date and frequency!

  131. michael   •

Do they work on a down payment or are all around 1000

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Michael – your down payment will depend on how much a vehicle is. We can definitely work with you if you have a number in mind!

  132. Cooli   •

Is it true that you just need liability insurance for your leased vehicles?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Cooli – liability insurance is required for all vehicles during the life of the lease. However, this does no cover the vehicle if it is in an accident or theft.

  133. Clintia Bienaime   •

I Heard That You Guys Make Us (Customers) Pay Twice A Month. How True Is That

    • DriveTime   •

  135. jonathan   •

Sorry to bother you. Having a rough time here, not even sure if this is where the questions go. I’m 31 never had a drivers license Till two months ago. I have no driving record. I am from boston massachusetts and two weeks ago I had applied for a car loan through Drivetime. today I had received a call from Dave At Drivetime in Natick massachusetts and said I was approved for a car loan. I had told him I can only put down 300. Till the end of the month for a down payment. He told me thats fine. Now im stuck with the whole insurance situation. The questions I have are, would the loan cover the insurance down payment for 500.00 to start off? If not would they let me pay the insurance tomorrow when I go in to see him and come back in two weeks to pick up the car ? Would I have to have the license plates to take the car off the lot? Would they help me find the cheapest insurance? Would they repo or mess up my credit really bad if i was 1 week late for a payment? Not say I would be just curious. I worked hard on my credit and I don’t want it to go down for something so small. Would they help me find the best deals? Are all the cars reliable?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Jonathan – great questions! First, your sale associate will help you find insurance for your vehicle. Before you leave the lot with your vehicle, you’ll receive a temporary license plate and a permanent one will be sent to your residence. The cost of this will be included in your fees before you leave the dealership. If you’re going to be a few days late on your payment, definitely call our Customer Relations department and they will work with you. You can reach them at 1-888-418-1212. Definitely contact your local dealership and they can give you more accurate numbers based on your monthly income and the type of vehicle you’re looking for.

  136. Richard   •

Do you report to credit bureau? Thanks RICHARD

    • DriveTime   •

Hey DriveTime, The car that I am interested shows the value is cheaper than what the price is, and I have a copy of the carfax. is it possible they could bring down the price a little bit due to this? Thanks.

    • DriveTime   •

Hello – Unfortunately, we can not. We feature no haggle prices and our vehicles are priced according to current market value and in accordance with NADA values.

  140. Brandi   •

I have been with drivetime for years and upgraded to a truck I have had for 2. Read about the cancel anytime thing y’all got….is that like voluntary repossion. And how does that work with the balance I owe?? Thank you for any help

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Brandi – The Cancel Anytime Lease is not a voluntary repossession, it is a completely separate program.

  141. Amy   •

Hi! I have a very urgent question. My boyfriend purchased a vehicle a year and a half ago. We have never been late on a payment. Unfortunately, we are going to go through a separation. I have made the down payment and the payment every two weeks. I would like to keep the car because it is safe for our 5 year old. BUT he stated the only way I can keep it is to put it in my name. My question is can I do this with drive time? I applied online for a loan with drive time and was approved for a higher amount that is left on the vehicle. I am not a cosigner. I have the insurance for the car in my name as well. If I cannot he stated he will be letting the car go back as a repo. I don’t want to have wasted my time and money. We are in Wyoming. The car was purchased in Colorado.

    Thank you in advance.

  142. Jonathan   •

I have been approved…. But my wife have a car which we are still paying the loan.

  144. Samantha   •

    Drivetime…

Do you accept trade-ins as down payment?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Samantha – The value of the trade can certainly be applied to your down payment and loan. However, your local dealership can provide you with the accurate trade-in value of your vehicle. Give them a call and they can give you more information.

What if this is my first time purchasing a car and I don’t have insurance to transfer? Can I just show up with an insurance quote and go from there after purchasing the vehicle? Also, I have a good credit score, but not a lot of credit history & my debt to income ratio is high because of my student loans. I have verifiable income, but it’s not much as I only work part time. Is there an exact minimum monthly income amount you require? Or is there a rule like you must make 3x the monthly car payment for approval?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Sheree – We should be able to help you out! You can definitely contact your local dealershipand they will be able to help you with your financing and insurance questions.

Hi Mike – yes, it is still possible to purchase or lease a vehicle from us if you have had a prior repossession, especially with a co-buyer. I recommend getting approved online then stopping into your local dealership to discuss your options with them!

  151. Jasmine   •

Hey DriveTime!! I have a couple questions! I got approved for a loan when I did the application on line, but that’s been some months ago, my first question is does that loan change over time when it hasn’t been touched? 2. • DriveTime   •

  163. Jose W Basilio   •

Why do you charge higher down payments for different models if the price are similar, for example car (A) selling for 15,000.00 but requires a down payment of 3,000.00 but a similar car (B) which goes for 16,000.00 requires a down payment of 1,600.00. What I am taking out is a loan not a car, why does drive time care what vehicle you choose. Could someone clarify that for me? and If I am pre approved for 18,000.00 and you tell me I need 500 dollars down..and then try to get me into a lemon not the car that is under or at my approval amount. I need answer….! lol

    • DriveTime   •

Got approved for a loan for 16,000 am I really approved or is it just a gimmick to get ppl to come into the store to get turned down like the rest of the dealerships?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Kisha – That amount should be correct as long as the information you entered online was accurate. We’d love for you to visit your local dealership to talk to one of our Sales Advisors about getting approved and driving home with a vehicle.

  177. Katie   •

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Brianna – You will need insurance before driving off the lot. Depending on which state you are in, we have an option for our customers to obtain insurance through Motion or our CPI coverage which covers comp and collision. Thank you.

  185. mike   •

I am tired of dealerships taking advantage of people to where I don’t even want to goto them anymore. You say at Drive time everyones Approved for a car if they have proof of income, proof of residents, and a valid drivers license. What if I’ve had two Repossessed cars because I bought a car with problems which cost me more to fix it then it was worth. Can you still get me financed and do you do in house financing or use the same banks most other used car lots use?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Mike – It is possible to get approved with us even if you have had a prior repossession. We take pride in the fact that we work with our customers to help them find a vehicle that will work with their current situation. I highly recommend getting approved online or contacting your local dealership to talk to one of our Sales Advisors about scheduling an appointment! Thank you – Tiffany|DriveTime Community Manager

I was looking to purchase my first car through Drivetime, and I don’t have insurance. So if I’m able to obtain insurance through Drivetime would I have to also pay for it on the same day or would it be included with my monthly payment?

Thank you!

  191. Jessica   •

I have a question.. My grandfather has a car from y’all. I am helping him pay the payments. Can I put my own insurance on the car or does the insurance need to be in his name with me as a liable person?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Jessica – Thanks for reaching out! The insurance will have to be under the same name as the person who is purchasing the vehicle. If you have additional questions, feel free to give our Customer Service department a call at 800-965-8043 – We’re always willing to help answer any questions! Thank you.

    Hey DT!
I just financed a vehicle and my insurance is pretty steep, especially considering that it’s a newer vehicle with pretty low mileage. Mainly it’s because I’m not 25 yet. I just wanna know what I am required to have insurance wise on my vehicle that is financed. Is liability fine? Comprehensive & liability? Or it definitely must be full coverage?

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Deanna – This will vary depending on which state you live in. Hi Jose – Unfortunately, I will not be able to provide you with an accurate down payment amount as there are many different factors that help determine a down payment. 196. Deede   •

Hi DT. I’ve applied to other dealers they all say 100% guarantee. That was a lie. I have a credit score of 494. Transunion. I know all situations are different and it depends on the car, but do down payments go higher than 2000$? Are you percent based for down payment? Like needing 30% down? What’s the highest percentage down? 50? In Illinois do they accept bank Statements as verification of income? Thank you.

    • DriveTime   •

Hi Deede- The best way to know your down payment is to apply online and you’ll either see your down payment online or receive a call with your down payment. We don’t have a set percentage that we need down. It’s based more on your CreditRank (how you score with DriveTime), and your income. As far as bank statements for income, I highly recommend contacting your local dealership to talk to one of our Sales Advisors about scheduling an appointment and what documents you will need when you visit the store! Thank you – Tiffany|DriveTime Community Manager

  197. Deede   •

Also if you apply on line and are approved for xx amount of dollars does that amount change when you go in the dealership?

  207. Macaiah McGuire   •

I’m sort of confused on the insurance thing. If I’m a first time car buyer how do I go about getting proof of insurance?

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hey there, Macaiah!

Once you have selected the vehicle that you want, you can call your preferred insurance provider in order to get a quote.

If you decide to move forward with your purchase, you would then call the insurance provider of your choice in order to purchase a new insurance policy for said vehicle. At that point, your insurance provider would then send a copy of your Declarations Page to the dealership, which would then act as your Proof of Insurance.
I hope that answers your question! If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out!

I did an approval online and it’s said something about my down payment will exceed 3,000 dollars. Is it saying my down payment has to be over 3,000 or I can’t go past a 3000 dollar down payment. I need an explanation.

  214. Jennifer bacon   •

You guys need to be honest about trade-in vehicles. You guys don’t roll over negative equity so you don’t take trade-in vehicles if you have a loan. Because we all know cars don’t hold their value like they use to. You should state that in the answer to trade-in question posted on your website. . Don’t waste people’s time driving to your dealerships to find out you have to basically owe nothing on your car to get into another.

    Sincerely wasted my time.

    • Customer Relations   •

This is why we correlate our customers’ payment due date with the date they are paid by their employer. Thank You,

How long do the guaranteed online approvals last? I was checking to see how much to save for a down-payment, but I wont be able to purchase for a few months…

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hello Monique,

For further assistance, please reach our Sales Department at (800)965-8042, a team member would be glad to clarify any further questions.

Hello! I recently had a voluntarily repo on my vehicle. Will that stop me from being able to get a car? And i see it says insurance proof i dont have a vehicle right now so i have no proof of insurance and most insurance companies wont offer insurance until they have the car info.

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hello Christina,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing a vehicle through DriveTime!

Unfortunately it would be difficult to provide you with a direct answer as to whether or not we can approve you for a vehicle with a recent repossession on your credit. This is due to the fact that each customer’s information is assessed individually when reviewing for approval.

In reference to your question regarding proof of insurance, please know that our customers will typically purchase insurance at the point of sale, prior to leaving the lot.

If you have any additional questions regarding our approval and/or purchasing process, please reach out to your local DriveTime dealership.

      Thanks,

      Jacob – Customer Relations

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding purchasing a vehicle from DriveTime. We are glad to hear you have taken the first steps in submitting an application online.

In regards to down payments, we strive to be as transparent as possible. The approval you received online means that we have options as low as $500.00 available to you based on the information provided in your application. Please keep in mind that the actual down payment required will be contingent on the vehicle you choose. Please know that all approvals are subject to multiple factors, including but not limited to income level, proof of residence, and credit score. The dealership will request that you bring documentation to validate what was provided in your online application.

Our goal is to provide everyone the opportunity to apply for a vehicle and help place them into a vehicle of their liking with loan terms structured to that customer’s individual situation. I appreciate you reaching out to us and should you wish to discuss this matter further, please contact our Sales Team at (800) 965-8042.

      Respectfully,

      Jodi-Customer Relations

Hi drive time, a friend of mine is making payments on a car through you guys, is there any way for me to replace her and put the car in my name?

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hello Tiffany,

Thank you for your question! In order to have an active vehicle loan placed under the name of another party, it would require that the loan is refinanced under a new name.

I would strongly recommend that you have your friend reach out to her lien holder to discuss her options in further detail.

      Thanks,

      Jacob – Customer Relations

How long does your app stay on drive time before it expires

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hello Kia,

Thank you for reaching out! Any approval applications submitted through our dealership are valid up to 30-days from the date that they were originally submitted. If another inquiry is made outside of that 30-day time frame, a new application would need to be submitted, along with a new set of income and residence verification documents.

If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your local DriveTime dealer!

      Thanks,

      Jacob – Customer Relations

Is the gap insurance? How long do you have to put insurance on the vehicle after you put your down payment on the vehicle? If DriveTime put insurance on your vehicle can you still get your own.

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hello Lesia,

      Thank you for reaching out!

To answer your question, GAP is a form of coverage that our customers can opt in for at the time of sale, but is not intended to act as a substitute for your standard auto insurance. The GAP coverage we offer is intended to cover the balance that is left over after the insurance company pays their portion of the loan balance in the event of a total loss.

In reference to your follow-up question, yes, you are able to have your own auto insurance active along-side the GAP insurance. In fact, any of our customers that are actively financing your vehicle through our partnering financing company, BridgeCrest, are required to have full comprehensive and collision auto insurance active throughout the life of their loan.

I hope I was able to provide the clarification you were looking for. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to your local DriveTime dealer.

      Respectfully,

      Jacob – Customer Relations

I was wondering if i was approved for a car for a certain down payment will that percentage be the same down payment for a car that cost more? Also if there is a vehicle in a different state i’m interested in, can that vehicle be transferred or can i purchase that vehicle in my state and pick it up myself in another state?

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hello James,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing through DriveTime!
In reference to your question regarding down payment requirements, please keep in mind that this amount can vary depending on vehicle specifications and customer documentation. Unfortunately, it is not a flat amount that is transferrable to all vehicles on our lot.

Regarding your question about a potential out-of-state purchase, please know that these limitations can vary depending on the purchasing state, as well as your home state. For additional information on this matter, I would strongly suggest that you contact a DriveTime in the state that you aim to purchase in to ensure you are receiving the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Hi I was recently approved by DriveTime. I am curious about the proof of residency. I do not have any bills in my name. I live with roommates. I don’t have credit card or bank statements. I don’t have my paychecks mailed to the house I currently reside at. All my mail gets sent to a P.O. Box in same city I live in. What are the alternatives? Also I wanted to ask about the proof of insurance. I am unclear of what that means? Can I have auto insurance before I get a car? Or what exactly does that mean “proof of insurance”?

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hello Albert,

Thank you for reaching out to us and congratulations on your approval. In regards to the documentation needed to start the sales process, I would encourage you to contact your local dealership. You are also welcome to contact our corporate sales team, at 800-965-8042.

It’s good to know that an auto loan’s terms are tailored specifically to a unique financial situation. I think it would be important to have good credit just in case. You could get a bigger loan if needed and even a lower interest rate at some places.

  247. Patricia Jefferson   •

Is it possible to have more than one car loan if your existing loan is nearly paid off

    • Customer Relations   •

      Hello Patricia,

Thank you for reaching out. Everyone’s situation is different, but typically the loan would have to be satisfied before starting a new contract with the same dealership.

I would recommend that you contact your finance company or the dealership where you purchased your vehicle to get further information.

      Thank you,

      DriveTime Customer Relations
